Scrubs
Scrubs

A group of 5 students from Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School attended the SCRUBS CAMP (HEALTH CAREER EXPLORATION FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS) in Mobridge, SD on Wednesday, October 21, 2009. The students who took part in the trip were Jade Baker, Andrew Schuler, Mariah Black Bird, LaCee Johnson, and Jimmi Lawrence. Calli Thompson was also a vital member of the team who helped supervise and assist the students. Transition Specialist, Judy Garon coordinated the one-day event.
Scrubs Camps are free, one-day, hands-on health career camps for high school students. South Dakota students have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of health careers through hands-on activities and discussions. The students had an opportunity to meet and interact with professional people in various health careers.
The various doctors, nurses, EMS (Emergency Medical Service) technicians and college advisors were very articulate speakers who motivated students to start thinking about a career path and set goals early within their high school educational program. The following is an agenda for the day’s activities.

8:45-8:55         Welcome & Overview
9:00-9:55         Physician/Nursing
10:00-10:55     Radiology/Lab
11:00-11:55     Physical Therapy/EMS
12:00-12:30     LUNCH
12:35-1:20       National Preparedness/Exploring AS Degrees in Health Careers
1:25-2:10         SD My Life
2:15-2:30         Closing/Wrap Up

The students commented that the Scrubs Camp was a very worthwhile experience and it started them thinking about setting goals for their own career path.
